Olimpic Games Rio 2016 - Hallyu #8

South Korea finishes 8th in the Rio Olympic Games, achieving 9 Gold medals, 3 Silver medals, 9 bronze medals.

Archery

Archery is the sport, practice or skill of using a bow to propel arrows. The word comes from the Latin arcus. Historically, archery has been used for hunting and combat. In modern times, it is mainly a competitive sport and recreational activity. A person who participates in archery is typically called an archer or a bowman, and a person who is fond of or an expert at archery is sometimes called a toxophilite.

Taekwondo

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art, characterized by its emphasis on head-height kicks, jumping and spinning kicks, and fast kicking techniques.
Taekwondo was developed during the 1940s and 1950s by various martial artists by incorporating elements of Karate and Chinese Martial Arts with indigenous Korean martial arts traditions such as Taekkyeon, Subak, and Gwonbeop. The oldest governing body for taekwondo is the Korea Taekwondo Association (KTA), formed in 1959 through a collaborative effort by representatives from the nine original kwans, or martial arts schools, in Korea. The main international organizational bodies for taekwondo today are the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF), founded by Choi Hong Hi in 1966, and the partnership of the Kukkiwon and World Taekwondo Federation (WTF), founded in 1972 and 1973 respectively by the Korea Taekwondo Association. Gyeorugi ([kjʌɾuɡi]), a type of full-contact sparring, has been an Olympic event since 1992. The body known for taekwondo in the Olympics is the World Taekwondo Federation.

Shooting

Shooting is the act or process of discharging firearms or other projectile weapons such as bows or crossbows. Even the firing of artillery, rockets, and missiles can be called shooting. A person who specializes in shooting is a marksman. Shooting can take place in a shooting range or in the field in hunting, in shooting sports, or in combat.

Fencing

Fencing, also called Olympic fencing, is a sport in which two competitors fight using 'Rapier-style' swords, winning points by making contact with their opponent. Based on the traditional skills of swordsmanship, the modern sport arose at the end of the 19th century, with the Italian school having modified the historical European martial art of classical fencing, and the French school having later refined the Italian system. There are three forms of modern fencing, each using a different style of weapon and different rules, and as such the sport is divided into three competitive scenes: Foil, Épée and Sabre. Most competitive fencers choose to specialise in only one weapon.
Competitive fencing is one of five activities which have been featured in every one of the modern Olympic Games, the other four being athletics, cycling, swimming, and gymnastics.

Golf

Golf is a club and ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible.
Golf is one of the few ball games that do not require a standardized playing area. The game is played on a course with an arranged progression of either nine or 18 holes. Each hole on the course must contain a tee box to start from, and a putting green containing the actual cup. There are other standard forms of terrain in between, such as the fairway, rough, and hazards, but each hole on a course is unique in its specific layout and arrangement. Golf is played for the lowest number of strokes by an individual, known as stroke play, or the lowest score on the most individual holes in a complete round by an individual or team, known as match play. Stroke play is the most commonly seen format at all levels.

Cosmetics(K-Beauty) - Hallyu #5

These days,  Korean beauty products gain ground as leading sellers in these shops  and even more, in shops throughout the world. Korea is reinventing beauty, or perhaps reminding us of what makes for beauty, through advanced product design, excellent marketing, and providing good value for money.

Consumers in many nations continue to seek ways to counter the effects on the body of working more hours. We look for therapies to care for the body in an age where so much leads us to forget ourselves. Just as ambient music, spa treatments, and fitness have seen renewed popularity, beauty products are a key trend as part of healthy living.

Today, Korean facial cleaning and moisturizing products take the world by storm. Many people in my family use the skin masks for cleaning and making the skin softer. These excellent treatments help fight off the damage caused by our sun-soaked places and dehydrated interior spaces. They counter the results of aging. People don't want to focus just on making skin look better with coloring and makeup. They want products that keep the skin clean, healthy, and luxuriant.

Korean beauty products have become leading export items for your advanced economy.  Korean products are now beginning to rival those made in other advanced countries. Exports to the United States and France are also growing. Double-digit growth, sometimes at annual rates of 50 percent or more, characterizes the spread of Korean beauty products in global markets.

Some of the leading enterprises in the Korean beauty products world include Innisfree, Laneige, Etude House, and Sulwhasoo, all from the AmorePacific Group. These brands have begun to spread how good Korea's consumer goods are, just as have Samsung phones or KIA cars, for example. In the past, Korean beauty products launched as what people call "BB creams." They combine foundation, moisturizer, sunscreen, and antioxidants in one product.

Korean beauty treatments may use refinements of natural substances and new chemical compounds or additives. However, the treatments often simply return consumers to practices of good skincare, stressing the cleaning, sun-protecting and restorative and hydrating properties.  Korean treatments focus on the need to care for the skin not just regularly but several times a day, morning and night.

Another important key for continuing the trend of K-beauty products in the Middle East, as an example. They will need to distinguish or divide the market to tailor Korean treatments to the preferences of consumers in different global sectors. The article focused on differences in skin types, the price advantages or comparative advantage of Korean beauty products, and popularizing beauty product lines for younger consumers.

K beauty products feature multiple treatments in one. They also use substances long thought helpful such as eggs or hydrating and moisturizing masks. Others turn to more exotic materials, like mushroom, snail, and seaweed derivatives.

Korean Medical Tourism - Korean Wave(Hallyu) #4

Korea, a Technological Leader in Medical Services

In Korea, you’ll be able to take advantage of convenient and highly developed one-stop services.
As you go through your examination and receive treatment, your medical records will automatically be saved in a cutting-edge, computerized health network system. This information may be accessed by other health facilities, meaning that you can easily switch your treatment location without having to go through endless paperwork.
Korea is an international forerunner in the field of robotic surgery. Robotic surgery is performed using a robotic arm that rotates 360 degrees and enables surgeons to see 3D images at 20x magnification. The robotic arm is particularly effective in the treatment of cancerous tumors because it can remove cancerous cells located in very thin and intricately intertwined lymph nodes. In the case of thyroid surgery, thanks to the robotic arm, the incision is less than one centimeter long and the scar is almost invisible.
Korea offers premium high-tech medical services by combining advanced IT and biotechnology, continuing to make significant advancements in the field of medicine.

Advantages of Korean Medical Services (below)

Highly Accomplished Doctors.

In Korea, the standard of medical excellence is so stringent that only the top 0.5% of medical students can pass the rigorous exams and go on to become practicing professionals. When you come to Korea for your medical needs, you can be assured that you are in the most capable of hands.

Surprisingly Affordable Prices

The cost of medical services in Korea is very low compared to those in the USA and Japan. For example, hemorrhoid surgery in the USA costs approximately 10.91 million won while for a fraction of the cost (roughly 1.27 million won) you can get the same, if not superior, treatment in Korea. Some cancer treatments in Korea cost half of what you would pay in Singapore or Thailand.

Healing Environment

Our bodies are very sensitive to the weather. After surgery, excessive exposure to sunlight can worsen scarring or cause you to heal more slowly. You may even experience infection or inflammation after surgeries that are performed in hot and humid climates.
These weather-related complications, however, are not an issue in Korea. Korea has four distinct seasons and the weather is pleasant throughout most of the year, with just enough sunlight and gentle breezes to aid you in your recovery.

Comprehensive Health Examinations

There is a Korean proverb that says, "If you want to remove a weed, you need a shovel, not a hoe." In other words, something small can become a serious problem if you don’t do anything about it. It’s the same with your health. In many cases, chronic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes don’t show any symptoms until they become serious problems. Periodic health examinations are a low-cost and highly effective investment for your health and happiness. Korean hospitals offer a wide range of health examination programs that are designed to meet the needs of each individual patient.

Aesthetic Surgery

Everyone wishes he or she could be more attractive; in Korea, this dream becomes a reality. From correcting minor deformities to complete beauty reconstruction, Korea’s acclaimed plastic surgery procedures make anything possible. In Korea, eyelid and nose surgery is offered at one third the cost of what you would pay in Japan. Wrinkle removal and breast surgery are another specialty of Korean surgeons, who are known the world over for not leaving any scars, a major concern for many female clients.

Oriental Medicine

Oriental medicine is based on the concept of restoring and maintaining your body’s natural balance. When the harmony of our internal energy is disturbed, we become ill or feel tired and listless. In oriental medicine, acupuncture needles and moxa cautery are used to rebalance the energy of the body and natural herbal medicines are used to restore harmony between the organs. Oriental clinics in Korea combine the best of both oriental and western medicine and can prescribe either type of medication to meet the needs of the patient. Oriental clinics are particularly well known for curing spinal diseases through non-surgical treatment.

Dental Care

According to the results of a 17-year long study of 50,000 men between the ages of 40 and 75 conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health, people with periodontal diseases have a 54% higher chance of developing pancreatic cancer and a 49% higher chance of developing kidney cancer compared to those in the same age bracket with no periodontal maladies. Research states that bad oral hygiene means more bacteria and viruses. Harmful substances created by the bacteria and viruses enter open areas in the mouth, travel through the bloodstream, and spread throughout the entire body. Dental health is much more important to your overall wellbeing than you may realize.

Infertility Treatment

Korean doctors say, "There is no such thing as infertility, only subfertility." There may be many hurdles or obstacles that seem to prevent you and your partner from conceiving. Korean doctors, however, eliminate a number of causes of subfertility and help you get ready to have your new baby.

Clothes(Hanbok) - Korean Wave(Hallyu) #3

Hanbok, the traditional clothing of Koreans

"Hanbok" is a collective term for traditional Korean clothing. Though there have been slight changes in hanbok over time in terms of material, preferred colors, and the length of the skirt or jacket, the hanbok's basic format has more or less remained the same for the past 1,600 years.
Hanbok can be classified into ceremonial and everyday dress, each of which can be further classified by gender, age and season. All types of hanbok are created beautifully through combinations of straight and slightly curved lines. Women's hanbok in particular are recognized worldwide for the simple yet delightful harmony of their short jackets and full skirts. The jacket, which is put on one arm at a time, makes the upper body look very small, while the skirt worn wrapped around the waist makes the lower body look full, creating an attractive balance. The cut and drape of the clothing complements not only the Korean female physique but also flatters and fits most other body types as well.

The eight beauties of hanbok

The beauty of hanbok is found in the elegant flow of its lines and in its pleasing color palette. Just like the gently sloping eaves of a traditional Korean house, the harmony of the curved baerae (bottom line of the jacket's sleeves) with the sharp straight lines of the dongjeong (creased white lining of the jacket's collar) well reveals the subtlety and exquisiteness of traditional Korean aesthetics. The hanbok's attractiveness even shines through in the lovely lines created by the body's movement while wearing it—one of the reasons it enjoys such global attention. The hanbok is typically defined as having "eight beauties," as beauty of structure, form, creativity, harmony, color, nature, empty space, personal character.

Hanbok, the most "Korean" dress code

Having coexisted with the Korean people ever since the beginning of their history, hanbok is a beautiful cultural heritage that all Koreans should be proud of not only for its historical value but also for its uniquely Korean artistic significance. The hanbok, which changes only slightly according to the season, social status and situational context, is highly regarded for its creative design and overall elegance.
Although the hanbok to some extent lost its place in Korean daily life due to the rapid inflow of Western civilization after Korea's opening to the Western world in the 19th century, it is still the most representative of Korean dress and a symbol of the identity of the Korean people.

Hanbok is now being blended with more modern forms of dress, opening up a new era of Korean clothing design.
